How to Style Your Senior Session Look
OK, don’t hate me, but picking out the clothes is the easy part of getting ready! Think I’m crazy and need some help, check out this what to wear blog! Now that you have the top and bottom picked out, now is the time to accessorize! Did you just roll your eyes? Thought so! But hear me out! Even the fellas need to add some style to their looks! It’s ok; these are simple choices that don’t need to be overthought! To make this easy, I’m going to work my way from the top of your head to the tips of your toes!
Hats - A hat is a great addition to your session! Regardless of type, hats are a great way to complete your wardrobe! A cowboy hat would look great with a krangler, button-down, and sports coat! While a baseball hat pairs great with jeans and a tee! We probably won’t keep them on for the whole session, but they are a great accessory to have on hand!
Necklaces - While there is a time and a place for a statement necklace, your senior session photos are meant to be timeless. When your grandchildren are looking at these, I don’t want anything to distract them from seeing you! With that in mind, small chains with crosses and medals make a great statement. Larger chains can be distracting and take away from the overall aesthetic of your look.
Watches - Ya’ll, I love a well-styled watch! These are great pieces to help style a look, and I have a few tips to keep in mind while you’re getting your looks ready. Keep the metals the same (silver watch needs a belt with silver metal, etc.). If I weren’t already typing in caps lock, this next statement would be in all caps, so instead, I’m going to make it bold. Ready? Leave the Apple watch at home! My goodness, leave the Apple watch at home, along with the watch that velcro’s on and the watch that also serves as a calculator. Finally, prior to your session, check the fit of your watch. Make sure it isn’t cutting off your circulation or about to fall off your wrist.
Rings - Rings and necklaces fall into similar categories for me. A class ring is a great statement. Every championship ring that you’ve won since you started playing t-ball 15 years ago is a bit excessive.
Belts - Belts are like the cherry on top of your outfit. It is the piece that ties it all together from top to bottom. The hardware of the belt should match the hardware of your necklaces, watches, or rings. Another tip is to keep the belt and the shoes the same shade. The style of the belt (wide, skinny, leather, or cloth) is up to you and what you’re going for!
Shoes - I know what you’re thinking, you won’t see my shoes in my pictures so I can wear whatever I want to. Whelp, that’s not entirely true. While you may not be able to see your shoes in every photo, you’ll definitely be seeing your shoes. Your shoes should be going to the same party that the rest of you is going to. If you have on a sports coat, button-down, and pants to match, throwing on Crocs or Hey Dudes would throw off the whole look! While there is a place for a relaxed shoe, your session may not be it.
Have on Hand - Not sure what else to bring to your session? Here are a few things to have on hand to use throughout your session. A letterman jacket, to be used as often or as little as you’d like. Your equipment (this could be a uniform, a football, sheet music, an instrument, or any other equipment needed for your activity/hobby), Something to show off your next steps. This could be a shirt from your school, a flag or sign that you get with your acceptance letter, or just knowing their hand signal.
